4 Halloween Driving Tips

Driving on Halloween may seem like driving on any other night, but it is filled with perils and pitfalls. If your route takes you through any residential areas or downtown, you will be certain to encounter droves of excited children marauding through the streets in search of treats, or tricks.

Traffic statistics always show a spike of accidents involving pedestrians on Halloween. While trick-or-treaters are wise to use caution when crossing the street, much of the responsibility falls on the driver.

  • If you are driving to a costume party, wait until you arrive to put on parts of the costume that could impede your driving ability—bulky layers, oversized shoes, and masks.
  • Have a designated driver if you plan to drink.
  • Drive slowly and cautiously, especially if you see groups of trick-or-treaters.
  • Treat all stopped cars like school buses: do not pass, they may be dropping off children.

Your friends at Sheehy Nissan of Mechanicsville hope you have a fun, and safe, Halloween!
